Storyteller Feedback

We had a wonderful time. I shared stories about traditional First Nations world view beliefs. They seemed to have really enjoyed themselves. I sang a drum song for them. The students gave me a very loud applause and thanked me for spending time with them. They were very polite and intelligent little people!

-Lyndon Linklater

Student Feedback

One thing i liked or learned today is...

Mother Earth
-That Mother Earth depends on us and how we treat it. He said people used to drink water from the rivers and now we can't because everything is getting polluted. I also liked that when he told us about when he was in the airport and they had an oxygen machine because our air isn't safe. Lyndon was a very nice person and he knows his stuff. Thank you Swift Current Library!

-That the future depends on how we treat Mother Earth. We used to treat the rocks and trees and water like people, but things changed so we need to help the world right now because its not too late to change back, but soon it will be.

-Mother Earth because how he talked about it i never thought of the earth like that so Lyndon is a neat guy.

-One thing that i learned today was that Native people thought of the earth as their mother and that is where the saying "Mother Earth" came from.

Religion/Spirits
-That everything that is made is alive and have spirits like a pet rock. Most people think there is no such thing as a pet rock or a rock that is alive, some think it is weird and some think it is nice.

-I learned that everything made by a spirit has a spirit. For example a rock has a spirit, spirit rock. I thought that was interesting because a lot of things have changed for some people. I also learned that there are many beliefs in this world.

-I learned that everything is alive and that natives have 3 beliefs.

-That rocks are alive and they have feelings and earth is our mom.

-I learned that the First Nations believe that everything has a spirit.

-God is part of the promise when you make a deal.

-One thing i learned was that First Nation people believe that everything including rocks are alive.

-More about his religion and i really enjoyed the song.

-I liked it when we told us that blueberries have spirits and same with the rocks and everything has a spirit.

-That some people used to believe that everything has a spirit and i liked when he sang the song.

Song/Drums

-When Lyndon sang us a song with no words but lots of noises and a drum. I also liked the treaty he made.

-One thing i liked about the presentation was when he played the drum.

-I like the stories that he told us, they were awesome and the song that he sang for us. I'm glad we did this because it's so fun to go to the library to go see someone.

-I learned that Lyndon is a very good storyteller about his ancestors. Also how seriously he takes the whole time being with us. I liked the music he played for us today. I liked his set of characteristics. All in all hes one in a million.

-When he sang that song.

-I liked the drums and the stories and the songs.

Jokes

-I liked the fact that he said girl jokes.

-I liked all the funny things he did and when we talked about the alien thing. Also i loved the beautiful song and the joke. Thanks.

-One thing i liked was the jokes about the genie lamp, and the thing i learned was that people are different and they come from different cultures.

-He was funny and entertaining.

-One thing i liked about the presentation was that the storyteller said girls are smarter than guys.

-One thing i liked is that Lyndon kept it funny so the people didn't get bored and not pay attention.

-I liked the stories he told and the jokes, and he made them funny and i myself liked it. My favorite joke was the boy who wanted to be smart so he got turned into a girl. It was really funny.

-The one thing that i liked about today was the joke and the story.

-The one thing i liked was when Lyndon told us jokes and gave us quick answer questions.

Treaties

-One thing i liked was how they had a treaty and they would just trade the land.

-About the treaties. It was interesting to learn how the natives couldn't read the treaties and they did not know what they were agreeing to. I really liked the presentation and would like to see more.

-That the First Nations made a contract with Americans to keep the land and also to share with everyone else.

-I learned more about treaties, the medal and stuff.

Environment

-That Lyndon helped me better understand about how things are with Global Warming and how First Nations think of it. It was very interactive too. He also helped us understand how life would be like if something bad were to happen.

-That we are at the bottom of the list on being green.

History

-I really liked the part where he talked about the settlement and the railroad. I thought it was very cool because i love history. I also liked his drums and the songs he sang. They were very relaxing and calming.

-I loved it was so cool and fun. I learned about a lot of different stuff like how people lived back in the days and some laws. It was the best ever cause everyday you don't get to see an author like that!

-I learned that before Canada was a country way back, there was a government trying to form a Canada. What they first did was trying to build a railroad east to west but the aboriginal people didn't like that. So the railroad builders went to the government. They signed a treaty. The aboriginal people only did this because they had to change their ways because the buffalo were going extinct.

Culture

-I liked that we got to go. Thanks for all and i learned that there are 2 types of Indians.

-I liked the whole presentation it was very good. I learnt many new things about different people.

-The one really cool thing i learnt today was that in Amsterdam their airport has a place where you would go and pay to breathe really fresh air instead of the polluted stuff outside. I thought that was pretty smart and weird at the same time but i had fun there.

Teacher Feedback

-Both the students and i very much enjoyed Lyndon's storytelling today.
-Great information, he did a great job of relating the topics and issues to the students
-Wished we could have stayed longer
-A bit more space for students to sit would be helpful for behaviour, but it's tough because it's nice to have that closeness for the storytelling. That area would have been perfect for one class. Maybe I would bring each class separately for a similar presentation so the kids stay more engaged.
-Thank you so much for inviting us. The kids and i think we'd like to attend more presentations like this.
